Tips For DIY Car Cleaning.

You can achieve a professional looking clean for your car at home with some basic tools and household items. Here are practical DIY car cleaning tips for both exterior and interior.

Always work in a shaded area on a cool car to avoid streaks and water spots..

Exterior Cleaning Tips

The Two-Bucket Wash Method: Use one bucket with car shampoo solution and another with plain water. Dip your mitt in the soapy bucket, wash a section, then rinse in the plain water to avoid scratching paint with trapped dirt.

Clay Bar for Smooth Paint: After washing, use a clay bar lubricant and gently glide a clay bar over the paint to remove embedded contaminants for a smoother finish before polishing.

Polish and Wax for Shine and Protection:  Apply a polish to remove light swirls, then hand-apply carnauba wax such as Turtlewax in circular motions. Let it haze, then buff off for UV protection and glossy shine.

Tires and Wheels: Clean wheels first with a dedicated cleaner to avoid splashing brake dust. Use a brush for crevices, then dress tires with a water-based dressing for a like-new look.

Interior Cleaning Tips

Vacuum Thoroughly. Start from top to bottom: seats, dashboard, then floors. Use attachments for vents and crevices.

Homemade All Purpose Cleaner: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water with a few drops of dish soap. Spray on dashboards, door panels, and vinyl, wipe with a microfibre cloth. For matte finishes, use plain water to avoid shine.

Streak-Free Windows: Use a glass cleaner or a mix of water and vinegar. Wipe vertically inside and horizontally outside to spot missed areas easily. Finish with a dry microfibre for no streaks.

Pro Tip: Always use microfibre cloths to prevent scratches, and test cleaners on a small area first. Regular DIY maintenance keeps your car looking great and preserves its value!
